Wilderness
From the Dark RuneScape Wiki - follow the rules, or else!
The Wilderness is the area of land to the northeast of the map released during RuneScape Classic replacing the system where players chose to fight other players or not. Instead, the Wilderness uses a system of levels to determine whether players can attack each other. Players can attack other players within the level of Wilderness you are in who are within that of your combat level either way. For example, in level 10 Wilderness a player with a combat level of 50 could attack players with combat levels from 40-60. If a player attacks another player in the Wilderness, a skull will appear over the player's head. Players with skulls are often referred to as 'skulled'. If a player who is skulled dies, they won't keep any of their items. Using the Protect Items prayer will only protect 1 item. The skull disappears after 20 minutes. The Wilderness is separated from the rest of RuneScape by the Wilderness Ditch, which must be hopped over in order to get into the Wilderness. It should be noted that this is a very dangerous place and you should not venture here unless you are prepared to lose any items that you may be carrying.
The Wilderness update on December 10, 2007 changed many aspects like this of the traditional Wilderness. Players can no longer attack each other unless they are in the Bounty Hunter arena. In this minigame, players are challenged to find and kill another randomly assigned player inside the arena, while the other player is assigned to kill someone else. Players can also attack others in clan wars, but this is not generally called "PKing"(or Player-killing) as players can not recieve drops (except fired arrows and bolts/ invaluable dropped items) and is a "safe" minigame. In the arena, any player in a clan chat may challenge another clan to a battle inside a special arena. JaGeX instituted this update mainly to combat real-world trading. To make up for the previous danger of the wilderness, there are now randomly spawning Revenants, ghosts of creatures slain during the God Wars, that hit very much like a player of the same combat level. For instance, a level 105 ork revenant can hit over 25, can range players, teleblock, poison, freeze, and heal itself a limited number of times. The "level" of the wilderness displayed in the lower right of the screen displays within what levels a revenant can attack you.
This is the new updated Wilderness.
