Newspaper Scam
From the Dark RuneScape Wiki - follow the rules, or else!
The Newspaper Scam is a scam in which the buyer of a newspaper approaches the seller. The seller is going to sell it for a reasonably high amount for a newspaper e.g 500,000 coins (500k), when a newspaper is only worth 50 coins. The buyer will think that the newspaper is a rare item, when it can only be bought at the Varrock news-stand for 50 coins.
[edit] Example
- Seller: Selling the Newspaper for 500k
- The Buyer approaches the Seller and trades.
- The Seller puts in the newspaper, and asks for 500,000 coins.
- the buyer puts up the 500k and accepts thinking its a rare
- buyer:omg i own a rare item and i got it for 500k!!!
- seller:lol nub i just made 499,950 gp! (although smart scammers will wait over a minute before saying this so to aviod getting reported
- The Buyer reports the seller for rule 2.
(Through is is now technically impossible because of the unbalanced trade limit)
(Technically this isnt a scam. The scammer never said it was rare,he only said he was selling it for 500k. So in sense the buyer got ripped not scammed.)
